GOLEM is a market for computing power

WHAT IS GOLEM?

WHAT IS GOLEM?

Anyone can USE GOLEM:

  • to rent out unused computing resources;

  • to buy computing time from other users;

  • on personal as well as on professional hardware.

GOLEM is a market for computing power

THUS, GOLEM CREATES:

  • the first prosumer market for computing power;

  • the market where all the world's hardware can directly compete;

  • the general use case for Ethereum.

GOLEM: THREE SIDED MARKET

GOLEM NETWORK

Requestors submit tasks requiring high computing power to the Golem Network, divided into many independent subtasks.

01

Providers perform tasks using their spare computing resources.

02

GOLEM NETWORK

Requestors submit tasks requiring large computing power to the Golem Network, divided into many independent subtasks.

02

Dynamic peer-to-peer network: no central authority, no single point of failure.

Requestors become providers and vice-versa. New nodes may join at any moment.

GOLEM NETWORK

Golem Network Token

GNT is used for payments

- GNT is used to transfer value - transactions only in GNT;

- GNT can evolve (migration);

- GNT is an Ethereum-based token.

golem: key properties

- Golem is a p2p network - all interactions happen directly between the nodes;

- Golem is NOT a blockchain - we use the Ethereum blockchain;

- Security and standardization - computing is done in a sandbox;

- Computing-intense MapReduce use cases support - for now;

- Blender rendering implemented - more in the future;

- Created for any hardware - private or professional;

- Platform for developers - integration tools planned for 2018/2019;

- Scalable.

golem: WHERE ARE WE NOW?

- Golem Alpha2 0.15.1 released two weeks ago

- Golem is on Ethereum mainnet, with transactions in GNT

- CPU support, Blender renderer integrated

short term plan

- finishing Concent service on mainnet

medium term plan

- new use cases (technically similar to Blender rendering)

- support for proprietary software

- GPU computing

- use case pipeline: building for the future

Launching to mainnet

- Mainnet launch exposes the project to all kind of risks, but:

            - it is impossible to finalize a product without real users

            - It is impossible to finish a dapp without leaving testnet laboratory

- Takeoff checklist:

            - smart contract audits

            - core UX functionalities

            - testnet / mainnet distinction

            - legal issues (is GPL3 enough or not, do we need terms of use?)

            - user support & feedback loop

Launching to mainnet

WHAT WE ARE LAUNCHING IS STILL BETA SOFTWARE!

but:

- We want our users to be able to experiment with Golem outside of testnet laboratory;

- We want to test our hypothesis on how life network will behave;

- We need a stress test of our methods of coping with high gas costs;

- We really need a feedback loop (danger of drifting away from reality into comfort zone of theoretical wrestling with sophisticated problems).

legacy systems outpaced by social and technological change:

  • financial system is unstable and prone to manipulation by few;

  • political decisions are a result of wide-scale manipulation and misinforming of many by few;

  • Infrastructure can be selectively turned off by black hats on authoritarian regime’s payroll;

We need a new PARADIGM - new methods of coordination

our decentralized future

thank you
